our week in Portland!

Here we are on our 6am flight to Portland & we were STOKED! Our week in Oregon was heavenly. Food-wise, weather-wise, fun-wise, it's just an incredible place. Let me tell you a little about our trip :]

Portland is a BEAUTIFUL city, where no car is required. One of my favorite things to do while we were out there was to walk around & admire the cute little storefronts & monuments & street art. There was also never a dull moment while gazing out the window on the Trimet :]

Let's talk about the food! Oh, man, Portland is seriously Foodie Heaven. I ordered the most incredible ice cream from Salt & Straw (some of my favorite bloggers wrote about them at Young House Love). In case you're curious, I got a scoop of the almond brittle with salted ganache! I also had the best grilled cheese & tomato soup OF MY LIFE at The Picnic House, & I was pleasantly surprised to see that it is served at a ton of different restaurants out there. Of course, we had to try Voodoo Doughnuts as well; not just once, but twice ;] However, a local told us that what Portland does best is breakfast, which I'd have a hard time arguing after our delectable breakfasts at Lovejoy Bakers & Gravy. YUM.

We visited the Oregon Zoo (where we met a cool sea lion who liked to give chest bumps), the Japanese Gardens, the International Rose Test Garden, Bridgeport Brewery (& lots of other breweries & taprooms). Did you know that Portland has the highest number of breweries in any city in the world?

For a couple days out of our trip, we rented a car so we could experience some of the nearby nature. On day 1, we headed west to Cannon Beach to dip our toes in the Pacific (Burton actually went all the way in!) & check out Haystack Rock, where The Goonies was filmed (hence, Burton's truffle shuffle). On day 2, we headed east to Multnomah Falls & hiked all the way to the top, then drove to Lost Lake to get a better view of Mt. Hood. We dipped our toes in & played with countless newts in the water :]

Needless to say, we were sad to leave Portland, but my husband & I are more psyched then ever to become Oregonians in summer 2014! You can see more of our Northwest Adventures on my flickr. Man oh man, when we got back from Portland, I was super jetlagged & had less than a week until I'd be in Israel! More on that in the next update :]
